MEAB NAACP Hosts Annual Juneteenth Celebration

On June 13,  the MEAB-NAACP and AT&T held its Annual Juneteenth 2019 Celebration.  The event was held at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Edison to a room filled audience.

Bill Davis from Rutgers University began the evening explaining the meaning of Juneteenth and its importance today. Juneteenth is the official Celebration of the Emancipation of Slavery generally celebrated on June Nineteenth (19th).

Visitors and participants gathered, mingled and enjoyed the refreshments and visited the vendors. Roses Studio Choir performed Negro Spirituals and Job Corps Students read their essay on what Juneteenth meant to them.

Attendees were also entertained with performances by Violinist Leticia Lewis, and the Plainfield Dance Ensemble.

The event included crafts, activities and games for children, AT&T STEM Tent prizes, and a health and wellness table.

The event was made possible in part by funds from the Middlesex County Cultural & Heritage Commission, Board of Chosen Freeholders and New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
